2024 Fall Programs
Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program
Ages: 16 – 18
September 16 – January 17, 2024
5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
During this training program, you can earn construction credentials before you begin your trade apprenticeship. You will explore the trades in the construction industry, learn construction terminology, practice using tools safely, and receive OSHA-10, first aid/CPR/AED, fall protection and flagging certifications.
Career Exploration – Skilled Trades Clubs
Ages: 11-15
October 8 – December 17
5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Explore a variety of careers in construction through presentations and hands-on experiences, such as; carpenters, plumbers, electricians, drywaller, painters, roofers, masons, and landscapers. Students will have an opportunity to use tools with fun building projects based on each career.
Teen Workshop
Ages: 13 -16

Join us on the MMSD school closure day, to learn how to build something amazing! Students will learn how to use a variety of tools and take home their creation! Building projects vary from cutting boards, stepping stools, birdhouses, to more!
Homework Help
Ages: 11-18

Homework Help encourages youth to be self-directed learners and achieve academic success by providing homework help, tutoring and high-yield learning activities and encouraging members to become self-directed learners.
Soft Skills – Youth Leadership and Service Skills
Ages: 11-15

Leadership and Service programs increase members’ motivation to become leaders and inspire others; their ability to use leadership skills to create meaningful change; and their confidence in seeing themselves as leaders. All programs build core competencies across age groups in three primary domains: self-leadership, leadership with others, and leadership in the community.
Family Build Day

Help Build Affordable Housing with Habitat for Humanity and Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County! BGCDC would like to invite teens (16+), family members and friends, and the community to help build affordable housing for low-income families in Oregon, WI. Volunteers will work under the guidance of construction professionals. Earn community service/volunteer hours for college or build work experience for your resume! No experience is necessary! Every volunteer will receive a free T-shirt and lunch!
Entrepreneurship – Stock Market Club
Ages: 14 -18

Whether you are brand new to saving and investing or looking to deepen your understanding of the capital markets, this club will equip you with tools to support your financial education journey. Topics include: intro in investing, companies, and stocks, conducting research, assessing risk, diversification, market analysis, asset allocation, and portfolio evaluation
Entrepreneurship – FamBiz: Introductory CEO Simulation
Ages: 11-15
October 10 – December 19

Discover what it means to be the CEO of a business! Students will become CEOs of their own cookie company. They will navigate critical choices in team dynamics, product development, marketing, consumer research, community engagement, and shape their own entrepreneurial journey. Students will explore their interests and strengths through problem-solving and self-management, fostering a holistic understanding of personal and community health.

To further deepen the impact of the McKenzie Regional Workforce Center & the skilled trades training programming, Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County is:
Reapplying proven academic and mentoring success strategies learned during our 12 years of AVID/TOPS programming as documented through an independent university study.
Partnering with the Madison Area Builders Association, local unions, and other residential and commercial building companies and organizations to ensure young adults are prepared for professional success in skilled trades.
Actively engaging investors that are committed to eliminating barriers for youth from low-income communities to achieve career and financial success through skilled trades jobs.
Skilled Trades Training
Trade Skills Training will teach students the hard skills they’ll need to pursue careers as plumbers, carpenters, electricians, HVAC technicians, and more.
Soft Skills Training
Soft-skills training will provide students with social, emotional, and learning support to assist them with transitioning to the workforce.
Youth Entrepreneur Training
Youth entrepreneurial classes will prepare students to launch their own independent businesses as well as build income and wealth.
